Janet Gurwitch has done it all. She mastered the art of retail as an executive at Foley’s and Neiman Marcus, then turned brand founder when she launched Laura Mercier Cosmetics. Ten years later, the brand sold for $120 million. Shortly after, Gurwitch started the third phase of her illustrious career as Operating Partner at private equity firm Castanea Partners.
Gurwitch has won big by betting on Dollar Shave Club, Drybar, and even the resurgent Houston Astros. Castanea’s investment in Tatcha and Gurwitch’s shepherding of the brand led to 2019’s biggest deal to date: Tatcha’s sale to Unilever for a reported $500 million.
