Industry giant and legendary designer Norma Kamali will be speaking at our upcoming BeautyX Demand Generation Summit this January in LA.
A trailblazer in the fashion industry for more than five decades, Norma Kamali remains today the sole owner of her independent company whose styles are loved and worn by celebrities and stylish men and women
But her legacy is not just sleeping bag coats and iconic swimwear. Kamali was an early proponent of a healthy lifestyle, way before wellness was a multi-trillion dollar industry. The devastation of AIDS and the loss of close friends set Kamali on a journey of discovery of optimizing health. She sought out alternative integrative pioneers in the field like Michael Pollan and Dr. Andrew Weil.
After 9/11, Kamali opened the Wellness Cafe and shared her healthy lifestyle learnings to a small but knowledgeable group of New Yorkers with similar interests. Kamali offered products like green juices that help build a strong immune system to this growing community. There were daily exercise series, film presentations about farming and an interesting product assortment spanning sleep, diet and exercise.
Now comes NORMALIFE, an accessible and inclusive personal care line for men and women of all ages and ethnicities. In the 70s, fifty percent of Norma’s clients were men and these were purchases made from her collection for women. Norma believes it was AIDS that stopped this creative expression in the 70s. The return of the gender neutral spirit exists today in her collections.
NORMALIFE’s skincare range presents the no makeup concept with its #gobaredontcare initiative. Men can finally have a skin line equal to that of women’s, confirming simple, timeless ingredients work. Women can choose to confidently go makeup-free with skin that looks hydrated and healthy. Sustainability is always kept in mind for all packaging as well as company policies.
“A healthy life supports how we feel about ourselves so we may all reach our potential.”
